About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at the City Ground, Liverpool edged past Nottingham Forest with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a late goal from Alexis Mac Allister (GAP +3.5%). The match was a hard-fought battle, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock until the very end. Liverpool entered the game as favorites, given their superior league position and recent form, which included three wins in their last five matches. Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, were looking to bounce back after a series of mixed results. The decisive moment came in the 90th minute when Alexis Mac Allister found the back of the net, securing all three points for Liverpool. This late goal was a testament to Liverpool's persistence and ability to capitalize on their opportunities, despite a resilient defensive display from Nottingham Forest. Key performances were noted from Liverpool's Alisson Becker (GAP +5.2%), who was instrumental in maintaining a clean sheet with several crucial saves. Virgil van Dijk (GAP +3.6%) also stood out, anchoring the defense and ensuring that Nottingham Forest's attacking threats were kept at bay. In terms of lineup changes, Nottingham Forest made two adjustments from their previous outing, bringing in Murillo and Igor Jesus while dropping Morato and Lorenzo Lucca. Liverpool made three changes, with Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Milos Kerkez coming into the starting lineup, replacing Andrew Robertson, Florian Wirtz, and Wataru Endo. These changes were part of a strategic rotation by both managers, although specific reasons for each change were not disclosed. This result sees Liverpool solidifying their position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table, while Nottingham Forest will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming fixtures to climb the standings. The victory provides Liverpool with momentum as they continue their pursuit of a top-four finish.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
